Aloha Service – August 19, 2007

Honoring the heritage of the Japanese Americans from

Hawaii, an Aloha Service of worship was celebrated

August 19, 2007.  The theme of “Aloha”, which can be translated as love, led to the sharing of selected verses from I John and the pastor’s message for the day “God is Love, God is Aloha”.

The scripture was read in Japanese, English and Pidgin,

signifying God’s gift of love for all people.

Musical offerings were given by the Chancel Choir,

singing ‘O Kou Aloha No’, “The Queen’s Prayer”, written by Queen Liliuokalani (1838-1917) while under house arrest during an

uprising.  A group of church members who study the art of hula presented an interpretation of “How Great Thou Art” in a sacred dance offering.  Ukulele also graced

the worship setting.

As the festive and inspirational day culminated in an

authentic Hawaiian pork meal, complete with coconut jello and pineapple cake bars!  Join us next year for our ‘Annual Aloha Sunday’!
